The Specialist, Operating Excellence is responsible for supporting key improvement initiatives. As a practitioner in Continuous Improvement (CI), you will evaluate site opportunities, benchmark site performance, and promote prioritized initiatives. This is a 5 month contract position.
 
To be successful, we are looking for someone who has strong capabilities to find solutions and make strong judgments and decisions through analysis of quantitative and qualitative information. Someone who has the ability to think critically about business problems, build business cases and communicate succinctly to various audiences. Our environment is fast-paced and dynamic, therefore the ability to manage changing priorities in a detail-oriented and organized manner is crucial. Above all else, you will have excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills, and can build and maintain successful relationships with partners across the company.
 
In this role, you will work closely with our maintenance department to ensure successful rollout of improvement initiatives. You will get the chance to engrain yourself within the department, relationship building will be a key to success. You will also play a crucial role in advancing the culture of continual improvement through all layers of our organization!

Responsibilities:
  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies 
  • Through fact finding activities identify areas for improvement, structure recommendations and syndicate the improvement opportunities with the Operating excellence Lead 
  • Facilitate idea generating sessions to resolve problems and establish root cause 
  • Apply problem solving approaches to design and conceptualize "to-be processes/solutions based on thorough understanding of business process improvement and change management methodologies 
  • Coach line owners to implements their business improvement projects 
  • Design and implementation of visual/performance management tools 
  • Evaluate the sensitivity of key business drivers and validate reported benefits against a common framework and methodology 
 
Requirement:
  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Mining, Engineering, or Processing 
  • Registered, or eligible to register, with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC); 
  • Five years of Operational Experience at a mining operation, or equivalent in a central function
  • Project management experience
  • Proficiency in the application of statistical methods 
  • Excellent digital literacy and experience in Microsoft Office Suite® including Excel, Word, and Outlook, Microsoft Dynamics AX and Power BI
